A Springdale man held a woman in his hotel room against her will and punched her in the face, according to court documents.

The man was identified as Ryan Smith, 36, court documents state.

Police were called to the Value Place hotel in Springdale, located at 4397 Dixie Industrial Ave. They were advised by dispatchers while on the way there that a woman called and said a man was in the room with her sleeping, and he told her when he was awake that he would kill her if she called police, according to court documents.

When officers arrived at the hotel, they knocked on Smith’s door, and the woman ran from the room into the hallway, court documents state.

The woman said that Smith punched her in the face and choked her until she lost consciousness. She also said that he held her down by the arms and legs and said he’d kill her if she called police. He took her phone away while she was on the line with 911, according to court documents.

Officers noted red marks on both sides of her neck and redness near her left eye. They also noted redness and swelling on her nose, and her upper arms contained both redness and vertical scratches, court documents state.

Bruising and redness were also found around both of her wrists, along with abrasions on both of the victim’s ankles where she said Smith held her down, according to court documents.

The woman was terrified at the very sight of Smith and said she was afraid if he got out, he would kill her. She also feared for the safety of her children, court documents state.

She told police this wasn’t the first time Smith had hurt her. He also pushed her down stairs a year prior to this incident, causing her to have surgery. She also said the incident went unreported, according to court documents.

Smith was arrested and booked into the Washington County Detention Center. He faces charges of domestic aggravated assault, terroristic threats and interference with emergency communication.
