The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department will conduct random inspections through Friday (June 6) of this week.

The inspections began just a day after a log truck lost control of its brakes and dumped several logs, killing two people and injuring dozens.

Two of those injured were men from Van Buren.

An annual inspection is required for trucks like the one involved in Monday’s crash, which is what prompted the road checks.

On Tuesday (June 3) 10 trucks were pulled off the road and necessary repairs were made before allowing them on the highway, according to the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department.
