A man was arrested in Rogers after soliciting sex from a 12-year-old girl, according to court documents.

Silas Upshaw, 60, of Hope, Ark., was arrested after he went into the Barnes and Noble bookstore at 261 N. 46th St. on Tuesday (June 3) at 5:23 p.m. and solicited sex from the girl, court documents state.

The girl told police her mother dropped her off at the bookstore, and she went into the cafe area when she was approached by Upshaw. Upshaw called her a prostitute and then asked if she was an undercover officer, according to court documents.

The girl told Upshaw she was only 12, and Upshaw then apologized for calling her a prostitute. After apologizing, Upshaw pulled out some money and said, “Money is not an issue. I can give you [what] you need,” court documents state.

“I am lonely, and I can fulfill your needs,” Upshaw said to the girl, according to court documents.

She left him and walked away, calling her mother. The mother then phoned police, and they arrived at the bookstore, the documents states.

After talking to witnesses, police arrested Upshaw and booked him into the Benton County Jail. He faces charges of public intoxication and sexual indecency with a child (felony), court documents state.

Bond for Upshaw has been set at $2,500.
