A traffic signal will be installed on Grace Lane in Farmington, according to Mayor Ernie Penn. It will be near the Walmart Neighborhood Market that's under construction on Main Street.

Penn said there's a traffic concern in the area because Bob Folsom Elementary School is close to the construction project. There will be an increase in shoppers driving in and out of the store and students crossing the road, he said.

The Walmart Neighborhood Market is expected to open in late August.

"We're really excited construction will be done that quickly," Penn said.

It was approved by the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department and the city's planning commission. Main Street is also known as Hwy 62.

Walmart will be in charge of paying for the traffic signal, Penn said.

Walmart will increase the city's sales tax revenue, according to Penn. The store will create 95 jobs.

"I think it's great because they need more jobs," said Michelle Brown. "There aren't very many jobs in this area."

"It will be good for the local people to have a place to go to and shop," she said.

Walmart also plans to open a Neighborhood Market in Centerton on June 18th. It's also building a Walmart Supercenter on Elm Springs Road in Springdale.
