A fire at an apartment complex in Fort Smith leaves one family displaced.

The Fort Smith Fire Department and police responded to an apartment fire at Lakeside Townhomes Apartments near Rogers Ave. and S. 46 St. around 2:30 p.m. Saturday (June 14), according to Battalion Chief Skip Mathews, Fort Smith Fire Department.

S. 46 St. was shut down for about close to two hours due to the fire, police said.

Matthews said two adults and three children were displaced due to the fire. He said crews were able to maintain the fire to just one unit, but the apartment is a complete loss.

“We were able to respond at our normal response time and got here quickly,” Mathews said. “The occupants in this apartment got out. One of them was asleep, woke up, smelled smoke and got themselves and the kids out real quick.”

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. No injures have been reported.
