The Aquatics Center has been open for families since Memorial Day of 2013, but Sunday they gave something a little extra for fathers.

For every father that had two paying family members, his pass was free. Carlie Richison said she was happy that her dad decided to bring her to the water park on his special day.

“Well I like all of the stuff here," The ten-year-old said, "And I like spending time with my dad.”

Bryne McNeil said he and his family tried to go a restaurant to celebrate Father's Day, but decided the long wait and the beautiful weather was worth a trip to the pool.

"I think it’s wonderful, obviously I think we picked the right day," McNeil said, "It’s not too crowded, it’s not as hot as later in the summer, plus we got free admission today."

Director Suzy Turek said the rain and lightning in the morning caused the center to open an hour late, but she said they're happy to have fathers and families enjoying the sunshine Sunday afternoon.

"Dad can kind of hang out and relax in the sun, get a little sun himself, and let the kids play and feel safe to let them go and do their thing, and check in every now and then," Turek said, "But he can kick back with a Coke and just relax today."

Father Anthony Smith did kick back Sunday with his wife and two-year-old daughter to enjoy the second season for the community pool and water park.

“It’s pretty awesome, and it’s definitely something close," Smith said, "And my daughter enjoys it...she’s out here six or eight hours until she’s done.”

Mike Fox said he loved spending time at the pool instead of relaxing on the couch or having dad-time.

"This is what it's all about," Fox said, "Hanging out with my girls...we've been on the lazy river hanging out together."

The Rogers Aquatic Center was open until 6 p.m. on Father's Day. Their regular hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and 12 p.m to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
