Voters in Elkins approved  a new sales tax Tuesday night (June 24), according to a report from the Washington County Election Commission.

The new sales tax will be used to help fund a $2.3 million baseball facility.

The initiative passed with a total of 174 votes to 46 votes (79.09 percent to 20.91 percent), the report states.

The plan will replace the old facilities in Elkins, which were torn down to build the new Elkins High School, and the tax would add 15 cents to every 20 dollars spent.

A location for the proposed fields has not been picked yet.
