Seventeen-year-old Marcus Goodnoh is only one of 100 patients to ever be diagnosed with sclerosing epitheloid fibro-sarcoma.
Out of those 100 cases, Goodnoh is only one of ten people to have the rare cancer reported in their abdomen. The Fort Smith teen found out he had a football-sized tumor in early March.
On Sunday, the Alma high school senior had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be named honorary grand marshall at the Houston Grand Prix. Goodnoh has been receiving treatments at the M.D. Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital in Houston for a few months.
“I’m pretty nervous, but I’m glad I got to see this opportunity,” Goodnoh said.
His aunt Brenda Snow said the race was even more special, because the Houston Grand Prix was sponsored by Marcus’ hospital. The race’s theme was fighting against cancer. Goodnoh said he has always had a love for fast cars and all things racing.
Doctors said since starting his treatments, his tumors are shrinking.
