A bicyclist was hospitalized early Monday evening  in Fayetteville after authorities said she was hit by a car that ran a red light.

Liz Williams, 64, was riding her bicycle northbound where Scull Creek Trail crosses North Street. Betty Lou Lester, 68, ran a red light at the intersection with her Chevrolet HHR vehicle and struck Williams, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.

The incident happened at 4:58 p.m. Williams was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center, where she was treated for scrapes, abrasions and a possible ankle injury, police said.

Lester, of Neosho, Missouri, was cited on suspicion of careless driving and no proof of insurance, according to Fayetteville police.

No other injuries were reported.
