The Rodeo of the Ozarks begins Wednesday in Springdale.

While many are preparing for the rodeo this week, the rodeo's board is busy planning for the event center's future.

Parsons stadium currently seats just over 9,000 people.

But, a plan to expand the facility could more than double that.

“The rodeo is a non-profit organization, and it's our intention to give back to the community," said Jerry Biazo, president for the Rodeo of the Ozarks.

Rodeo board members are already looking 5 years down the road, eyeing a bright future for the facility.

"We want the facility to reflect our support for the community, for downtown, and for the city of Springdale” Biazo said.

To do that, the committee plans to expand seating on the east side of the facility, as well as adding food venues to the stadium, which would broaden the facility's hosting abilities.

"It's not just a rodeo, or a bull riding deal, or a demolition derby, or a monster truck,” said Tex Holt, a rodeo board member.

Also in construction plans is a roof to cover the show ground.

"If we can put a roof on that sucker, where if the rain comes in here and nails us, you can still have whatever you want to inside there,” Holt said.

"This is something we've had in the plans for several years,” Biazo said.

Rodeo officials know the expansion won't be cheap for the non-profit.

"It's going to require a lot of money," Holt said.

And, with plans like this, they're hoping donors will share the same mission they have.

"We just want Northwest Arkansas to enjoy this facility,” Holt said.

According to rodeo officials, the expansion would cost $13-15 million.
