A man driving a 2003 Jeep hydroplaned in Sequoyah County on Thursday (July 10), and two people inside the jeep were injured as a result, according to a collision report from the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety.
The accident occurred at 8:17 p.m. at mile marker 325 on Interstate 40 east., the report states.
The driver of the Jeep slowed for a truck that was eastbound on Interstate 40, and in the process of slowing down, the driver hydroplaned to the right, causing the Jeep to leave the road, strike a fence and come to rest in a ditch.
The driver, an unnamed 18-year-old from McKinney, Texas, was taken to Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith with head and trunk internal injuries. He was listed as being in “stable condition,” according to the report.
The second person injured in the accident was identified as Dolder Maxwell, 18, of Plano, Texas. Maxwell was taken to the same hospital as the driver with head and trunk internal injuries. He was also listed as being in “stable condition,” according to the report.
The vehicle was carrying a total of four people, and the report states that two were not injured in the accident.
Whether or not seatbelts were worn at the time of the accident is still being investigated. Airbags were equipped and did deploy, the report states.
It was raining at the time of the accident, according to the report.
