Harrison Takes Home Southwest Elite 7-on-7 Championship

The Harrison Goblins take home the Southwest Elite 7on7 Showcase trophy beating Fayetteville in the process

There's a reason 32 teams from six different states came to the Southwest Elite 7-on-7 Showcase, the competition. Sixteen teams were in the playoffs last season and four of them were state title winners.

"There's always good competition out here," said Charleston quarterback Ty Storey. "There's 6A schools, there's 7A schools, people from different states. It's great competition and always glad to be here. I mean, anytime we can get together and throw balls on good competition like this it's going to make us better as a team."

Charleston and Fayetteville both fell short in the quarterfinals to the two teams that played in the final game, Heritage Hall of Oklahoma City and the not so distant Harrison Goblins.

Heritage Hall scored the first 14 points and looked to roll on the Goblins. Harrison responded big, scoring 26 unanswered points to win the championship, 26-14.

"I just want to say how proud I am of the kids, they way they responded," said Harrison head coach Chad Harbison. "The reason we play 7-on-7 all summer is to learn how to fight and overcome adversity and teach our kids to get on to the next play."

Harrison's win over Fayetteville was a huge boost.

"When you beat a team you're not supposed to win against, then obviously you want to play that much harder," said senior wide receiver Silas Huskey. "We knew they were the next best team in it and if we could beat them we had a real shot of winning.

The Goblins went won 11 of their 12 games, an unlikely champion in the beginning after a 3-7 season in 2013.

"Winning the entire thing never really crossed my mind," said Huskey. "I knew we could win games and when we started winning games, just keep winning games."
