Man Arrested After Shots Fired In Fort Smith Neighborhood

FORT SMITH (KFSM) – Local police arrested a man Monday night after shots were fired in a Fort Smith neighborhood.

Fort Smith police responded to North 21st Street and North K Street in reference to a call of gunshots. Responding officers chased the two men, who were in a Jeep vehicle. The Jeep crashed into a car on the side of the street, and the men were taken into custody, according to the Fort Smith Police Department.

Although two people were initially detained, police said one was later released because of a lack of evidence. The other suspect was arrested on suspicion of a separate case of outstanding warrants, Fort Smith police said. It is unclear what charges may emerge out of the shooting.

Police said no one was injured, and there was no sign of property damage, other than the vehicles involved in the wreck. Investigators found shell casings, but police said they did not recover a gun.

Authorities have not released the names of the men detained in the shooting.
