Bo Mattingly Recaps Day Two At SEC Media Days

Texas A&M, South Carolina, Tennessee and Mississippi State took the stage during day two in Hoover, Ala.

HOOVER, Alabama (KFSM)-5NEWS content partner Bo Mattingly gives his thoughts from day two at SEC media days:

One of the intriguing questions today was Texas A&M without Johnny Manziel. Kevin Sumlin has recruited really well in Texas but they will start either a freshman or redshirt freshman at quarterback. He won't announce that until two weeks prior to the season. Defensively they've got a ton of holes, and were not very good last year. Some of their best producers are gone. A&M looks like a team that could miss a bowl game. I think it's a great opportunity for Arkansas when they come up on the schedule in Arlington.

Steve Spurrier was his usual self today, entertaining and poked fun at Nick Saban and Kevin Sumlin. He was a good quote. South Carolina is coming off three consecutive 11-win season and won't play Arkansas for the first time on the schedule. I don't think they will contend for the SEC East. I think that will be Georgia, and surprisingly, Florida, coming off a 4-8 season. I don't see South Carolina good enough on defense to win the Eastern Division.

Another interesting team is Mississippi State. Dan Mullen is expected to have his best year in Starkville. He has 16 returning starters off a seven-win team. His quarterback, Dak Prescott, is a dark horse Heisman contender. But when you look at the schedule, I only see, at best, nine wins. It would be a great season for Missisippi State but I don't think it's SEC Western Division time for them quite yet .
