FORT SMITH (KFSM) – Two Fort Smith residents appeared in court on Wednesday (July 16) on suspicion of drug trafficking charges, according to a news release.
William Alexander, 32 , and Rosa Sharon, 49, appeared before Judge James Marchewski in Fort Smith at an arraignment today, a news release from U.S. Attorney Conner Eldridge states.
In 2013, the Drug Enforcement Administration started investigating a drug trafficking organization in Fort Smith, and authorities conducted multiple controlled buys. On July 13, during a traffic stop, authorities found pound quantities of methamphetamine in a car Sharon was driving. Alexander was the passenger in that car, so, both were arrested and booked into the Sebastian County Detention Center, according to the release.
A search warrant executed on their home resulted in the confiscation of more meth, ten firearms and other drug paraphernalia, the release states.
U. S. Attorney Eldridge stated, “Kids in Fort Smith and all across our district deserve to grow up in communities free from drug trafficking and the violence and other crime that comes with it. Our office remains focused on identifying and prosecuting those responsible for bringing large amounts of methamphetamine and other drugs onto our streets.”
“Methamphetamine destroys lives and has far-reaching negative effects in the communities where it takes hold,” said DEA Assistant Special Agent in Charge David Downing.
He continued, “Side by side with our local law enforcement partners, DEA is holding meth dealers accountable. We are seizing their profits, shutting down distribution networks, and putting dealers where they belong – behind bars.”
Both Sharon and Alexander are still in the Sebastian County Detention Center and face a charge of conspiracy to distribute meth, the release states.
