FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) - The University of Arkansas’ Baseball And Track Training Center will get a new name, after a  family donated $2.5 million to help fund the facility.

Wallace and Jama Fowler announced the pledge. The University of Arkansas Board of Trustees is scheduled to approve naming the facility the Fowler Family Baseball And Track Training Center at its meeting Thursday (July 17).

The facility will be connected to the north end of the Randal Tyson Track Center and in front of Baum Stadium.

"This is an over $9 million project and $2.5 million goes a long way to help us fully fund this facility," said Jeff Long, athletic director. "We're continuing to look to our supporters."

"Razorback fans have been so great helping us and we need to continue to gain some support for this facility and two or three others that we have going on at the same time," he said.

UA officials said the 52,000-square-foot indoor facility is almost finished, and it will serve 150 Razorback athletes as well as help with future student athletes.

"Certainly recruiting is a big advantage of this, but we really focus on our current student athletes and how it will benefit them," Long said. "But certainly any perspective student athlete that comes and sees our facility is going to be impressed and a product of good teams is having great recruits, so that's important to as well."

Long said the campus plans to have a formal dedication in the Fall.

The UA’s statement identifies the Fowlers as “longtime benefactors of the University of Arkansas.”
