Five Injured In Arkansas River Boating Accident


FORT SMITH (KFSM) – Five people were injured in a boating accident on the Arkansas River in Sequoyah County on Saturday.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol said they responded to the accident around 7 p.m. on Saturday (July 19).

The boat was traveling eastbound when it struck a navigation buoy, lost control and struck the shoreline, troopers said.

Five people were on the boat at the time of the accident, according to troopers. They were all treated and released from St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith.

Troopers said they believe the boat was traveling at a high speed before it crashed.
