Two former Benton County road supervisors pleaded guilty on Monday (July 21) in a countywide corruption case.

Scott Stober and Jack Brown pleaded guilty before Benton County Circuit Judge Robin Green. Both pleaded guilty to one Class C felony charge of theft of property and one Class A misdemeanor charge of theft of services, officials said. The felony is punishable by three to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The misdemeanor is punishable by up to a year in the county jail and a $1,000 fine.

The two men are set to be sentenced on Sept. 11.

Stober, the former county public services administrator, began serving jail time Monday in the Benton County Jail, although his sentencing is nearly two months away. He was booked into the jail at 12:39 p.m., according to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. He began serving early so that he would already have jail time under his belt when his sentencing occurs, officials said.

A third person arrested in the corruption, Grant McCracken, a former road construction superintendent, was handed a one-year diversion, meaning his case will be dismissed in one year if he does not commit any crimes. He also is required to spend 30 days in a county work program.
