CNN – A Twin Cities man’s life changed when he took a feathered friend home after she was rescued from a storm sewer after heavy rainstorms. And it turns out, an inseparable bond has been forged.

Nestled in a warehouse in northeast Minneapolis, is a gem of a place. It’s where Matt Thompson works on his neon business. But it’s the apprentice of the shop these days that’s hogging the spotlight.

You aren’t seeing things; this is home for 4-week-old Quackers. Thompson said, “I don’t think it thinks it’s a duck, but don’t tell it that.”

It all started about a month ago when street crews found the day old duck struggling in a storm sewer. So they pulled her out just when fate cued on matt to walk by. Thompson said, “We came out from lunch and they had the duck and they said we can’t take it with us so I said my son and I will help raise the duck and they gave it to me.”

It may not have been nature’s choice, but nurture seems to be working out. Every day Quackers comes to work with matt and as the time passes in the shop they stay thick as thieves.

It makes absolutely no sense, yet all the sense in the world. Because matt, he chose this little gal as a friend. Thompson said, “A very loyal friend. Everywhere I go. If I had to walk from here to home that duck would be one inch off my heels.”

But this little tag along chose matt as her family. So she she’ll be sure to waddle in his footsteps.

Matt says he’s going to keep the duck until she learns to fly and if she flies away, that will be that. But if she chooses to stay, he’ll be glad to keep her.
