BENTONVILLE (KFSM) - Bentonville city crews were out Tuesday (July 29) cleaning up downed tree limbs and other debris from the storm last Wednesday.

The wind storms that ripped through Northwest Arkansas  left some homeowners' yards covered with debris. Wind gusts reached up to 63 mph.

"A majority of it came from these trees in my backyard when the storm hit," said Curtis Tanksley, a homeowner. "It snapped a bunch of limbs off. That wind came so fast and so hard it just snapped off a whole bunch of them."

Crews in Bentonville were out at 7 a.m. on Tuesday collecting debris. They were collecting everything from tree limbs and shrubs to tree trunks.

"I have seen several piles of trash being hauled out to the curb for the city to pick up," said Phil Ward, a homeowner.

City leaders said they asked residents to keep debris out of drainage ditches and away from things like fire hydrants, gas meters and mailboxes.

"It would be expensive, so all in all I saved a lot of money by just putting it out on the street," Tanksley said.

Crews will continue their clean up until all streets have been traveled once. They will not repeat routes for collection.

Property owners may also take debris to the City's Compost Facility during normal operating hours. It's located at 2000 NW A Street. The facility is open Tuesday through Saturday, 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
