FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) - People working in retail have had their hands full this tax free weekend, with locals swarming stores to save ten percent on back-to-school items.

"We will look at our sales history from last year and compare it to last year and see how much we want to increase," Sears Manager Karen Nelson said.

She said they had to bring ten extra associates to make sure every customer is taken care of, as well as call their supplies months ago to prepare for the tax free holiday.

"Staffing was definitely a number one priority," Nelson said, "And of course we had to get merchandise for back-to-school."

Shopper Denise England said she was worried the tax free weekend would bring too many people into the stores and make her shopping experience unpleasant.

"Well saving ten percent is saving taxes, and that's a good thing, but at the same time the tradeoff are the crowds, the lines, and the low inventory," England said.

She said she and her daughter Abby were looking for new shoes for the upcoming school year.

"We thought we would just get out to look at a couple items, and if not we will come back and we'll pay our taxes when it's not so busy," England said.

The tax free holiday ends Sunday at 11:59 p.m.
