CLARKSVILLE (KFSM)  – The Clarksville Police Department is getting a new police station, and it will be open in 2015, according to Police Chief Greg Donaldson.

The Clarksville Police Department has been in their current station since 1990, Donaldson said, and the new station is scheduled to open in spring of 2015.

The police will be going from a 3,000 square-foot building to a 13,000 square-foot building.

“We’re excited. We can’t wait to get in it,” Donaldson said.

The building was funded by a $17 million bond that passed a few years ago, according to Donaldson.

The bond funded the new aquatic center, funded a remodeled fire station and now it is funding the construction of the new police station, Donaldson said.

Some of the new features of the building will include a gun-cleaning room, a new evidence room, a physical training room, a new holding cell and receptionists and dispatchers will now be behind bullet-proof glass, according to Donaldson.

Donaldson said that his investigators are currently in a separate building due to space constraints, but they’ll move into the new building with all the other officers when it is completed.

The construction is roughly a month behind schedule due to all the rain that came through Clarksville in July, but Donaldson said crews are still aiming to have it completed in the spring of 2015.
