GENTRY (KFSM) -It's a new year for the Gentry Pioneers, and they're ready for it.
"I want them to know different team, different attitude, different game," Cody Watson, senior left tackle said.
The Pioneers are going into the 2014 season confident in themselves. They have something a lot of teams in the 4A-1 conference don't have, experience on their roster.
"Any time you've got returning experience out on the field it's really a bonus," Brian Little, Gentry head coach said. "I think it will help us in terms of being able to come into the season maybe more prepared. Certainly we've got a lot of returning experience, and that's always a bonus."
The Pioneers haven't always had the best run in the 4A-1. They've been picked last by some for 2014. But, they aren't buying into that.
"I really expect if we can stay healthy and pick up a few guys that we can finish in the middle of the pack in this conference. As you said, with talent from some of the the schools that have maybe gone on, I think it will be a pretty even balance this year in the conference," Little said.
Even though they have the experience, there is one thing they are lacking.
"Depth honestly," Trystan Handy, senior right guard said. "We don't have but 20 some players. Every other team I've heard of has, you know, 40 or 50. So, every one of us are going to have to play both ways probably."
But, they want everyone to know that won't be a problem.
"We're going to come to play, so be ready. Don't not count us in the game because we're going to be there," Handy said.
