FORT SMITH (KFSM) – Administrators and teachers with Fort Smith Schools are busy preparing for the first day of class.

They’re having their annual back-to-school meeting Tuesday (Aug. 12) at the Fort Smith Convention Center.

District employees will hear from Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe, as well as Richard Cornelison with OG&E. Special presentations will also be made by district administrators.

5NEWS will have a crew there, and will bring you that story on your 5NEWS at 12.

Below is a schedule of back-to-school events for River Valley schools:

Tuesday (August 12)

 

Beard Elementary School, 1600 Cavanaugh Road
Back to School Picnic (provided by Beard Partners in Education) will begin at 4 p.m.

 

Bonneville Elementary School, 2500 South Waldron Road,
Kindergarten Open House will be from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Pizza and drinks will be provided along with a free book for each student.
 
Cook Elementary School, 3517 Brooken Hill Drive
Kindergarten Orientation will begin in the cafeteria at 6 p.m.
Orr Elementary School, 3609 Phoenix Avenue
Kindergarten Orientation will be from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
 
Tilles Elementary School, 815 North 16th Street
The Back to School Picnic and Report to the Public will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Hot dogs and snacks will be provided by the Tilles’ Partners in Education. 

 

Thursday (August 14)

Ballman Elementary School, 2601 South Q Street
A picnic for students and parents will begin at 5:15 p.m. in the cafeteria. At 6 p.m., classrooms will open for Open House.

Barling Elementary School, 1400 D Street in Barling
Ice cream will be served from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the school’s Open House.

Bonneville Elementary School, 2500 South Waldron Road
Students can “Meet the Teacher” from 5 p.m.  to 6:30 p.m. during the school’s Open House. Hot dogs will be served, and the event will concluded with the annual Report to the Public.

Carnall Elementary School, 2524 South Tulsa Street
The Report to the Public will begin at 5:15 p.m. and will be followed by dinner from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Dinner will be provided by Carnall’s Partners in Education.

Cavanaugh Elementary School, 1025 School Street
Kindergarten Orientation will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Cook Elementary School, 3517 Brooken Hill Drive
Open House for grades 1-6 will begin at 5 p.m. Parents will be given the opportunity to register their students for the SPICE program, followed by a short informational meeting and a PTA presentation. Free food will be provided.

Euper Lane Elementary School, 6601 Euper Lane
The Back to School Night will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. The PTA will provide snacks and drinks.

Fairview Elementary School, 2400 South Dallas Street
The Back to School Picnic will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Howard Elementary School, 1301 North 8th Street
There will be a Back to School Ice Cream Social from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Orr Elementary School, 3609 Phoenix Avenue
The Back to School Night will be from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Students will meet their teachers and the annual Report to the Public will follow. Hot dogs will be served.

Pike Elementary School, 4111 Park Avenue
The Back to School Picnic will be in the school cafeteria from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Spradling Elementary School, 4949 Spradling Avenue
Kindergarten Orientation will begin at 6 p.m.

Sunnymede Elementary School, 4201 North O Street
Meet the Teacher Night will begin at 5 p.m. and Kindergarten Orientation will start at 6 p.m. Free hot dogs will be provided.

Sutton Elementary School, 5001 Kelley Highway
Open House will be from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Trusty Elementary School, 3300 Harris Avenue
Report to the Public, Meet the Teacher, and Kindergarten Orientation will be from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Woods Elementary School, 3201 Massard Road
Meet the Teacher drop-ins will be from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Friday (August 15)

 

Beard Elementary School, 1600 Cavanaugh Road
Incoming Kindergarteners will be given the opportunity to “go through the motions” before school begins thanks to an instructional mini-grant from the FSPS Foundation. The even will begin at 9 a.m. and will last until 12 p.m.
 
Morrison Elementary School, 3415 Newlon Road
Meet the Teacher, Report to the Public, and an information session from the Morrison PTA will begin at 5 p.m. For more information, please contact Susan 
 
Pike Elementary School, 4111 Park Avenue
Kindergarten Camp will be from 9 a.m. to 11:30 am. Pike Kindergarten teachers collectively applied for and received this grant from the FSPS Foundation to provide a morning camp for incoming kindergarten students and their parents.
