WEST FORK (KFSM) – The accused co-conspirator in a West Fork pipe-bomb plot pleaded guilty today in Washington County Circuit Court, officials say.

Andrew Cox was accused of trying to help a woman in a plot to kill her ex-husband. He pleaded guilty to attempted battery in the first degree, a Class C felony, according to officials.

Cox was sentenced to 36 months of state-supervised probation due to his level of cooperation in the investigation, officials said.

The woman he was helping, Shirley Ann Mugley, pleaded guilty on June 30 and was sentenced to 18 years in prison, according to officials.

Mugley was arrested in July 2013 after police said she failed to kill her ex-husband with a pipe bomb she made with her former boyfriend Cox.

Washington County deputies said Cox told police he went with Mugley to buy materials to make the pipe bomb. Cox and Mugley made the bomb in the basement of Mugley’s house on the 14000 block of Arkansas 265 South, according to a preliminary arrest report.

The entire plan failed, however, and the pipe bomb was found in April in the Illinois River in rural Washington County, according to the sheriff’s office.
