NORTHWEST ARKANSAS (KFSM)- Fayetteville, Rogers and Bentonville School Districts are having activities for teachers Friday (Aug. 15) three days before their students return to class.

In Bentonville at the high school's Arend Arts Center, close to 2,000 faculty and staff are meeting to celebrate the start of the school year. There will be a vendor fair featuring businesses from across Northwest Arkansas.

The event started at 8 a.m. Superintendent Michael Poore is outlining the school year's goals as well as speaking about contributions students and staff made in the school district.

"We have an amazing staff, some really incredible statistics to be shared but also just in terms of how they care about kids and I think we want to convey that," Poore said. "I want to try to give them a sense of purpose about never being afraid to be innovative and creative in terms of doing things to create greater engagement for kids."

The education advocate Angela Maiers will have a presentation.

The Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce will have a Teacher Appreciation Expo at 11:30 a.m.  to 1 p.m. at Fayetteville High School. There will be vendor booths, door prizes and food vendors.
