The University of Arkansas Razorback football team treated the fans to a free public scrimmage Saturday afternoon.

Gate 1 opened at 2 p.m. and the players were on the field by 2:25 p.m. University officials allowed fans to bring their own food and drink, but bottled beverages were available in the stadium.

Fans were only able to sit on the west side of the stadium because of construction on some portions of the east bleachers.

Around 2,000 people came out to enjoy the Razorback offense-on-defense scrimmage.

"I'm just really excited," Joey Peterson said, "I didn't get to come to a game last year and I'm just excited to see them all play."

Peterson said he was looking forward to seeing what changes the Hogs made this year after having a losing record last year.

"I think we'll do a little better, but I still think we are rebuilding...I don't think we will get back to the way we were for a couple more years," Peterson said.

Season ticket holder Mike Armstrong said he hoping Coach Bret Bielema will have a better season than his first year coaching the Razorbacks.

"The coach was new last year, and it was a bad year...it didn't go well, and so this year we are looking just to see what he has added," Armstrong said.

The first Razorback football game will be at Auburn on August 30. The first home game will be September 6 against Nicholls State.
