LAMAR (KFSM) – A Lamar man was arrested by deputies with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 18 after pointing an assault rifle at a deputy’s stomach and fleeing, officials say.

Kenneth E. King, 69, was being served a court order at his residence by two deputies when he opened the door and pointed a loaded SKS assault rifle at the stomach of a deputy, according to a news release from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

He demanded that they leave his property, but they instead ordered him multiple times to drop the firearm, the release states.

King eventually threw the rifle on the couch and took off running inside his residence, according to the release.

The deputies caught King in his bedroom, and a fight took place. King struck the deputies multiple times while they were handcuffing him, the release states.

One of the deputies tased him twice before they were able to take control of the situation, according to the release.

King was booked into the Johnson County Detention Center and faces two counts of first-degree assault on an officer and two counts of second-degree terroristic threatening, the release states.

He appeared before Circuit Judge William Pearson, and his bond was set at $15,000. King bonded out of the detention center on Aug. 19, and his next court date is schedule for Sept. 5 at 9 a.m., according to the release.
