Sheriff: Man Kills Father, Mother Shoots Washington County Deputy
WASHINGTON COUNTY (KFSM) – A Washington County man shot and killed his father late Wednesday night (Aug. 20), after which his mother accidentally shot a deputy, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Cpl. Taylor Reed was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, where emergency crews described his status as critical but stable. His wounds are non-life-threatening, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
“He’s in good spirits and feeling grateful today,” said Kelly Cantrell, spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday to a report of a domestic disturbance at 12397 S. Whitehouse Road, near Elkins. Roberta Hill, 55, told authorities her son Sam Hill shot her husband Allen Hill in the chest and fled.
When deputies arrived at the scene, the woman shot at them, mistaking them for her son, according to the Sheriff’s Office. While shooting at deputies, the woman shot the corporal, the Sheriff’s Office said.
At this time, Roberta won’t be arrested or charged, Cantrell said.
Responding medical crews took Allen Hill, 61, by helicopter to Washington Regional Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
Fayetteville police went to Sam Hill’s house on Morningside Drive and found him with a gunshot wound to his hip, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Hill, 26, was taken into custody and also transported to Washington Regional Medical Center. He faces some type of homicide charge, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Cpl. Reed has been with the Sheriff’s Office since April 2007. He started as a dispatcher and moved to patrol in Sept. 2009.
An investigation into the shootings is ongoing.
