FORT SMITH (KFSM) - Patients in Fort Smith have a new state of the art doctor's office they can visit. A $5 million Mercy Clinic officially opened Thursday (Aug.21) with a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate. The new building is located on Cliff Drive just off Old Greenwood.

After one year of construction, the new facility is complete with 24 exam rooms as well as an onsite lab and imaging services. Leaders said they decided to build the clinic because of the need for more doctors in the this part of town. They have four doctors on staff now, but are hoping to add up to 24 more physicians and doctors.

"Mercy has been under an extreme amount of growth of the community plan that we are trying to meet the promises that we made to our community and this is another phase of doing that," said Dr. Sean Baker. "We are providing more access to our community members here in Fort Smith and we are able to see more patients."

The new Mercy Clinic is equipped with the state of the art technology. Dr. Baker said the technology will help patients be better diagnosed and treated. "Mercy has invested a lot of electronic medical record including patient access to online portals providing real time to patients through online communication, "said Baker. "Now patients have real contact with their healthcare team and this building is really designed to maximize that ability."

Another Mercy Clinic is under construction on the southwest corner of Free Ferry and Waldron Road in Fort Smith. It's set to open this November.
