The woman later accidentally shot a responding deputy for the Washington County Sheriff's Office in the chest. He is recovering at Washington Regional Medical Center and underwent surgery Friday morning, a family member told 5NEWS.
Roberta Hill, 55, called 911 Wednesday night to report a shooting at 12397 S. Whitehouse Road outside Elkins. She said her son, 26-year-old Sam Hill, shot her husband in the chest.
"He came in the door and shot him!" she yells, after which a dispatcher asks where the suspected shooter is. "He left."
Soon afterward, she tells the dispatcher her son returned, firing more shots at her and the house.
"Oh my god! He's coming back," she says.
Several gunshots can be heard during the 911 call, after which the suspect fled and deputies arrived on the scene, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Roberta Hill's husband Allen Hill, 61, was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, where he later died from his injuries. The suspect, Sam Hill, was caught at his home about an hour after the initial shooting. He suffered a gunshot wound to the hip and remains at Washington Regional while receiving treatment.
Hill will be booked into the Washington County Detention Center on suspicion of capital murder and other felony charges after he is healed, according to the Sheriff's Office.
