Arkansas Not Worried About Keeping Pace With Auburn

Auburn QB Nick Marchall expected to play. Arkansas is not worried about keeping pace.

FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM)- Auburn football coach Gus Malzahn said Tuesday that quarterback Nick Marshall will play in Saturday's game with Arkansas. It's just a question of when.

The Heisman Trophy candidate was cited for marijuana possession last month. Back-up Jeremy Johnson will be the starter, but Malzahn said the Tigers have a plan for Marshall to enter the game, yet won't reveal any details.

No matter who's under center, Saturday's matchup against the defending SEC champs is going to be a high scorer. So, how worried are the Hogs when it comes to keeping pace with Auburn?

"I don't worry too much about them," offensive coordinator Jim said said. "Our job is to go out and execute a play, and move the ball down the field and score points. Ultimately our objective is to get one more point than they do. So whatever that happens to be, that's what we're after. As far as keeping up with them, we don't look at it like that. It's we need to go execute, and do what we do, and do it to the best of out abilities."

Players agree with coach Chaney. It's not about keeping up this weekend, it's about how they themselves perform.

"We're just going to play our style of football," running back Jonathan Williams said. "You know they like to score. Every time we get the ball that's what we want to do. You know, we preach touchdowns not field goals. So, we know we're going to have to score, but we're just going to play our style of football."

"We're going to play how we play football, and you know that's going to be physical, run the ball, open the passing game up," tight end Hunter Henry said. "We're going to play our way. we're not going to play to the way they play."

Last year this game was riddled with mistakes that could have lead to points on the board. Chaney says it all comes down to execution this year.

"At the end of the day that's football. If you can go execute well enough to be successful, you lose games. Our intentions are to clean it up, play clean, and be able to execute our base offense and be happy with that."

Will we see those changes Saturday?
