MCCURTAIN COUNTY, OKLA. (KFSM) – A Springdale man was killed in Oklahoma on Aug. 24 at 10:36 a.m. during a sport utility vehicle crash, and the drunk driver of the SUV was arrested, according to a fatality report.

Tom Wutkan, 19, was killed when the 2002 Chevrolet SUV he was riding in on U.S. 259 in McCurtain County, Okla., crossed the center line, ran off the road and slammed into a guardrail, the report states. The vehicle overturned two and a half times, and Wutkan was ejected approximately 30 feet from where the vehicle stopped. He was pronounced dead at the scene from head injuries, according to the report.

Souvenir Kabua, 19, of Springdale was the drunk driver of the vehicle, the report states. He was treated for head and neck injuries at McCurtain Memorial Hospital and released into the custody of authorities afterwards.

Inside the vehicle were six people, counting Kabua, the report states.

Witmer Konov, 18, of Springdale was taken to McCurtain Memorial Hospital in stable condition with a trunk internal injury, according to the report.

Arthur James, 20, of Springdale was also taken to McCurtain Memorial Hospital in stable condition with a head injury, the report states.

James Kobony, 20, of Springdale was taken to Christus St. Michael’s Hospital in Texarkana where he was treated for trunk internal injuries and later released, according to the report.

P.J. Elmener, of Springdale was also taken to Christus St. Michael’s Hospital for a head injury. He was later released, the report states.

The vehicle was two miles west of Smithville when the crash took place, according to the report.

Nobody in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt, and the weather was clear. The cause of the crash was Kabua being drunk while driving the SUV, the report states.

The agencies that responded to the crash were the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the McCurtain County Sheriff’s Department and the Texas Highway Patrol, according to the report.

Kabua was booked into the McCurtain County Jail and faces a charge of driving under the influence, according to jail records.
