FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM)- Family and friends of Michael Gover released balloons at Lake Fayetteville on Thursday (Aug. 28) to commemorate the one year anniversary of his death . Gover, 30, was found dead at former Razorback football player Josh Melton’s home Aug. 28, 2013.

Melton was arrested that day after going into a “rage” and punching Gover multiple times, according to a preliminary report from the Washington County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

The group of Gover supporters on Aug. 28 released the following statement: “We picked balloons because they remind us of his playful nature. Releasing them lets us feel like we are sending our love up to him.”

According to the statement, Gover’s supporters say their “lives have been forever altered” but add they won’t let his death define them.

“We will continue to remember the man that we all knew and loved so much by keeping him alive through our memories of him,” according to the statement.

Melton is charged with second-degree murder. His first trial ended in a mistrial in July and is schedule for Oct. 28.
