Grant Money

LEFLORE COUNTY (KFSM) – Two towns in LeFlore County received $1.1 million in grant money from the Oklahoma Water Resources Board, according to a news release.

The state agency awarded a $99,999 grant to Talihina and approved a $1,025,000 loan to Panama, the release states.

Talihina is set to use its money to repair its sanitary sewer system, according to the release.

“The town is under orders from the state Department of Environmental Quality to improve its sewage disposal system, records show. Because many of the gravity-flow sewage collection lines in Talihina are more than 40 years old, rainwater leaks into the sewer system during periods of heavy rainfall and causes wastewater overflows,” the release states.

Panama’s money will be used to refinance the balance of USDA Rural Development loans that were obtained to pay for improvements to the town’s water system, according to the release.
