FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) – A Washington County Sheriff’s deputy that was shot by accident while responding to an incident on Aug. 20 has been released from the hospital, authorities say.

Cpl. Taylor Reed was responding to a call from a mother who stated that her son had killed her husband, and when deputies arrived at the mother’s residence, she fired at them, mistaking them for her son. Reed was shot and transported to Washington Regional Medical Center in critical but stable condition, according to authorities.

Reed underwent surgery to have the bullet lodged in his back removed, according to authorities.

After spending a week in the hospital, Reed was released late Thursday afternoon (Aug 28), authorities said.

Reed will continue to heal and recover at his home, according to authorities. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office did not release any time frame on when Reed would return to work.
