FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) – A drunk homeless woman tried to steal sunglasses and broke the glass on multiple motel fire alarms on Aug. 31 at 9:17 p.m. in Fayetteville, police say.

Julie Simpson, 31, was booked into the Washington County Detention Center  and faces charges of public intoxication, obstructing government operations, fleeing, resisting arrest, third-degree assault and first-degree criminal mischief, according to the jail’s intake report.

Police responded to a silent panic alarm at 3010 N. College Ave. When they arrived, they spoke with the clerk who said that Simpson had just left and tried to steal a pair of sunglasses, according to a preliminary report.

The clerk told police she was last seen walking toward Motel 6 at 2980 N. College Ave., the report states.

Police went to Motel 6 and spoke with the manager who said she was there and had been breaking the glass on fire alarms, according to the report.

Authorities found Simpson walking around the building, and when she saw the police, she ran. She eventually tripped in front of one of the rooms, and police took her into custody, the report states.

She refused to put her arms behind her back, and she also gave authorities a fake name. Police put her in a patrol car, and she began kicking in the back of the vehicle. While placing leg restraints on her, police noted in the report that she kicked multiple officers and tried to bite one.

The manager of the Motel 6 said she had broken the glass on five fire alarms, and the total damage was estimated to be near $500, the report states.

Her first hearing is scheduled for Sept. 3 at 11 a.m., according to the jail’s intake report.
