SPRINGDALE (KFSM) – The family of Sean Kelley, who drowned at Beaver Lake on Monday (Sept. 1), tells 5NEWS they are planning funeral arrangements for the 21-year-old.

According to Sean Kelley’s father, Roger Kelley, the funeral will take place Friday (Sept. 5) at First United Methodist Church in Springdale.

Officials say Sean Kelley drowned after diving off a bluff at Hickory Creek Park.

“He is an amazing soul, and will be sorely missed forever,” Roger Kelley said.

Former teachers of Sean Kelley describe Sean Kelley as energetic, and kind.

"A loss like that has a real impact and significance on me," said Robbie Cornelius, Vice President of Instruction at Northwest Technical Institute. "It is upsetting.”

Cornelius started his teaching career at J.O. Kelley Middle School, before working at NTI. He tells 5NEWS that Sean Kelley was in one of his first classes as an educator.

"Sean was a good young man. He had a bright future ahead of him," Cornelius said.

Lisa Holland was one of Sean Kelley’s instructors at NTI.

"It was very disappointing to hear [of Sean’s death]," Holland said. "He was very pleasant to have in class. Just a fun, loving, kid.”

5NEWS spoke to Sean Kelley’s grandparents, who say Sean had a history of having seizures. They believe that history may have played into his sudden death.

However, authorities have not determined what led to his drowning.

Meanwhile, family and friends of Sean Kelley say he will be greatly missed.

"Very sad. Just a young life lost at such a young age is just very, very sad," Holland said.
