Ground will soon be broken on a medical school in the River Valley. The school is being built by local contractors.

It's a multimillion dollar construction project to build the Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine with Beshears Construction and Nabholz Construction.

"The fact that they kept it local just really shows the commitment of the college,” said Travis Beshears with Beshears Construction.

"Real exciting for us to have such a presence on a job in the Fort Smith area,” said Rob Dodd with Nabholz Construction. “We've done several projects over the years, this one is a real game changer."

Construction begins (March 1) 2015.

"Classrooms, administration areas, some labs, lecture halls," Dodd said.

“Construction estimates are in the 21 million dollar range," Beshears said.

The million dollar facility will be in the Fort Chaffee area.

"It's right at 100,000 square feet," Dodd said.

"There will be several hundred on site construction workers throughout the project," Beshears said.

The projects expected to be completed by 2016.
