GRAVETTE (KFSM) – voters in Gravette are considering a millage hike, one that would pay for two school building projects.

"I think something like education is something that is really important, and so I can see myself supporting that," said Nathan Hamblen, a local man.

The proposal would add five classrooms, and one science lab, to Gravette High School, while also constructing a brand new Pre-K through 5th grade elementary school.

"I’d be definitely against it," said Ron Hiller, a local man.

Hiller lives in Bella Vista. He says he thinks the proposal is premature.

"I don't see where that's accomplishing or improving anything," Hiller said. "Everything I'm reading about is not necessary, it probably will be in the future.”

However, other residents like Hamblen say they support the increase, which would amount to about $70 more for a home valued at $100,000.

"There are a lot of people living here with families," Hamblen said. "There are plenty of people here now that have children. Traditionally it was a retirement community, but now it is a much more diverse community.”

The Gravette High expansion would cost almost $2 million, while the new elementary school would cost nearly $13 million.
