BENTONVILLE (KFSM) – Authorities say some Bentonville creek water was dyed bright green Tuesday, although it poses no wildlife or health risks.

A police officer was riding the trails near Little Sugar Creek, when he noticed the neon green color of the water. The Bentonville Fire Department investigated and believe non-toxic dye pellets were dumped into the creek, according to a fire department official.

The fire department tested the water and found the dye had no adverse effects. PH levels were normal, and wildlife were not bothered by the change.

Authorities said they do not know who turned the water green or what their motivation could be.

The color is dissipating from the water and should be clear by Wednesday, officials said.
