LOGAN COUNTY (KFSM) - An escaped killer was taken into custody on Thursday (Sept. 18), authorities said.

Several law enforcement agencies began searching for escaped inmate Timothy Buffington early Thursday after someone reported spotting him on Ferguson Valley Road and Arkansas 10 in western Logan County about a mile east of the Sebastian County line, said David Spicer, chief deputy of the Logan County Sheriff's Office.

Arkansas 10 was closed Thursday morning as authorities searched for the inmate, who escaped from a Central Arkansas prison in June. Motorists were being rerouted to Arkansas 60.

Spicer said the person who reported seeing Buffington said he was wearing a red flannel shirt with ripped sleeves and a grey T-shirt underneath. He was also wearing dark pants, authorities said. Buffington was also seen either wearing or carrying a headlamp, authorities said.

Authorities said Buffington was considered armed and dangerous.

Deputies with Logan County Sheriff's Office, Sebastian County Sheriff's Office, troopers with Arkansas State Police and officers with the Arkansas Department of Correction were searching the area Thursday morning (Sept. 18). K-9 officers with dogs also were assisting in the search. A helicopter has also been called in, Spicer said.

Buffington escaped from an Arkansas Department of Correction facility in Pine Bluff on June 21, officials said. He was nearing the end of a 20-year sentence on a first-degree murder conviction in the 1998 shooting death of Rhonda Combs in Logan County.
