BENTON COUNTY (KFSM) – Deputies with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office arrested the Huntsville City Attorney at 1:30 a.m. on Thursday (Sept. 18) on suspicion of driving while intoxicated (DWI), authorities say.
He was arrested at North 2nd Street and North Locust Avenue after deputies observed him speeding and driving left of center, according to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.
Howard Cain, Jr., 70, was booked into the Benton County Detention Center and held until he was sober, authorities said.
Cain was cited around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday and was released from the jail, according to authorities.
His first hearing is scheduled for Oct. 28 at 9 a.m. at the Rogers District Court, authorities said.
The Huntsville city website states that Cain has been the Huntsville City Attorney for 40 years. In the past he served as a deputy prosecuting attorney for the fourth and 19th judicial districts of Arkansas, according to the city’s website.
He faces charges of DWI, driving left of center and speeding, authorities said.
