LAVACA (KFSM) - Steve Rose, Superintendent at Lavaca Schools, said the district has cancelled classes Thursday (Sept. 18) due to a power outage.

"We had a sub-station get hit by lightning last night, and we're without power," Rose said.

Rose says Thursday's parent/teacher conferences will be rescheduled to a later date. The volleyball game will still go on as planned inside the high school gym. The 7th grade football game will take place at 5:30 p.m. in Booneville, as well as the 8th and 9th grade games, which is set to get underway around 7 p.m., according to the superintendent.

"We`ll notify the parents via Facebook and or phone," Rose said.

If you have any questions you're asked to contact the school's central office at (479)-674-5611.

At last check, Lavaca Schools were still without power, but the high school facility never had an outage.

"The elementary school and the middle school are separate grids from the high school and the central office,"

More than 500 homes and businesses in the Lavaca area are also without power Thursday morning, according to OG&E. Stay with 5NEWS for more on this story.
