Deputies: Man Tries To Break Up Disturbance, Gets Stabbed In The Arm

WASHINGTON COUNTY (KFSM) – A man tried to break up a disturbance after seeing another man slap a woman on Thursday morning (Sept. 18), and when he did, he got stabbed in the arm, authorities say.

Jeremiah Smith, 34, of Decatur was seen slapping a woman, and when another man approached to try to breakup the disturbance, Smith stabbed him in the arm, according to authorities.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office was first notified of the incident at 4 a.m. on Thursday. They were told the stabbing victim was being treated at Washington Regional Medical Center, authorities said.

Deputies weren’t able to speak  victim at the time, but they later learned the stabbing took place at a residence in rural Washington County, according to authorities.

Smith was arrested a short time later on suspicion of second-degree battery and third-degree domestic battery, authorities said.
