LAKE CITY, ARKANSAS (KFSM) – High school sweethearts from Lake City have vowed to spend the rest of their lives together after spending the past 63 years apart.

Marcella McCall and Johnny Vick tied the knot at a small ceremony Saturday (Sept. 20) in Lake City.

The two first met at a high school basketball game, back when they were teenagers. They said they dated in high school off and on but then each went their separate ways.

The couple said they saw each other at high school reunions over the years, but didn’t ever really keep in touch much beyond that.

Both got married, and had their own families. McCall had three daughters with her first husband. They were together for 39 years before he passed away.

Vick also got married, and had two daughters and two sons with his wife of 59 years. She also passed away.

Both McCall and Vick said their families were very supportive of their decision to get married after all these years apart.

“He was so happy, you could hear it in his voice when he told me ‘I have a date’,” Connie Caldwell, Johnnie’s daughter, said. “He’s been like a young teenage boy out sharing his adventures with his sweetheart. They just seemed to just pick up right where they left off, and just are best buddies. You can see it in her eyes and you can see it in his, and you can hear it in their voices when they talk about each other.”

The couple said they’re headed to Branson, Missouri, where they’ll celebrate their honeymoon.
