WALDRON (KFSM) – A Scott County man is still missing after a search was called off Thursday (Sept. 25). Mark Nix’s disappearance in a wooded area remains a mystery.

“I wish they would keep looking because like I said, I know his parents and I know what they’re going through,” Jewell Yandell said.

Mark Nix has not been seen since Friday, Sept. 19, and some Waldron residents are concerned about him.

“The longer it is, it just seems like he’s hurt or something,” Yandell said.

His truck was found in the woods just south of Waldron at Truman Baker Park the Monday after he went missing, and searchers looked for him within a six mile radius of his truck.

Investigators said they do not suspect foul play. Nix is a hunter and has the resources to live several days alone in the woods, according to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office.

David Burchett is from Phoenix, but knows the area and said you can never be too careful.

“We’ve been coming to the Waldron area here for about 14 years,” Burchett said. “If you go out in the forest you need to be kind of directionally orientated. There’s washes, and there’s wild animals out there.”

“Around here everybody is in the woods in and out all the time – it’s just the way Waldron is,” Yandell said.

Nix’s wife told investigators that it is not unusual for her to not know his exact location.

“I wish they could find him,” Yandell said. “He’s got to be out there somewhere.”

About 45 searchers from eight counties looked for him for several days.

No one from the Scott County Sheriff’s Office was available for comment Sunday, and the family of the missing man declined to talk on camera. For more information, visit our original report on this story.
