BENTONVILLE (KFSM)- Gubernatorial candidates Mike Ross, Democrat, and Asa Hutchinson, Republican, will take part in a forum Tuesday (Sept. 30) at the Arend Arts Center on the Bentonville High School campus.

The event is from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Dana Davis, president and CEO of the Bentonville/Bella Vista Chamber of Commerce, said it will be a question and answer format.

”We think it’s more important to get information out to those individuals that are going to be voting as opposed to creating a debate format where it becomes more responding to what the other candidates say," Davis said.

The chamber has about a dozen questions revolving topics like education, childhood development, taxes and the economy.

They are also involving the audience. Davis said they'll provide a phone number for the audience to send questions via text message.

They'll have a team who will filter through them and some can make it in the discussion, Davis said

"This is a very critical race for the state of Arkansas at a very important time," Davis said.  "We think it’s important that we get the message out to as many of our citizens, those that will be going out to vote as possible about what the positions of those two candidates are on key issues."

The forum is free and open to everyone. It's sponsored by Walmart, SourceGas, SWEPCO, Sam’s Club and Bentonville Public Schools.

Other candidates for governor, whose names also will be on the November ballot with Hutchinson and Ross, are Green Party candidate Joshua Drake and Libertarian Frank Gilbert.
