LOGAN COUNTY (KFSM) – A Logan County man was convicted of first-degree murder on Tuesday (Sept. 30), officials say.
Harry Bodine, 54, of Paris was convicted of first-degree murder and hindering apprehension in a Logan County courtroom on Tuesday, according to officials.
Bodine was arrested after the Logan County Sheriff’s Office found the body of Joseph Stapleton, 33, lying dead in his own front yard on May 14, 2013. An investigation was started, and Harry Bodine was arrested, along with his brother, Brett Bodine, 52, in September of 2013.
Stapleton had been shot multiple times, and authorities said they received statements that tied both Bodines to the crime.
The brothers were originally going to be tried together, but on Aug. 29, 2014, a motion was filed to separate the two brothers and give them their own jury trials, according to court records.
A Logan County jury found Harry Bodine guilty of first-degree murder and hindering apprehension on Tuesday (Sept. 30) at 12:25 p.m. They sentenced Harry Bodine to 30 years in prison for the first-degree murder charge and 10 years in prison for hindering apprehension, according to officials.
Both sentences are to be served concurrently, officials said.
Brett Bodine’s pre-trial hearing is scheduled for Oct. 10 at 9 a.m., and his jury trial is scheduled for Oct. 24 at 9 a.m., according to court records.
