WASHINGTON COUNTY (KFSM) – A Fayetteville man is behind bars after police say he was found raping an unconscious woman.

Keith Blanchard, 45, was booked into the Washington County Detention Center on Tuesday (Oct. 8) at 7:24 a.m., according to the jail’s intake report. He faces charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a suspended license, failure to pay fines, rape and second-degree sexual assault, the intake report states.

On July 26, the Lincoln Police Department received a call from a witness stating that she and another man had picked up Blanchard and an unconscious woman near Sugar Hill and gave them a ride to a residence in the 200 block of West Park Street in Lincoln. Blanchard told them the woman had been drugged, according to court documents.

Police went to check on Blanchard and the unconscious woman at the residence they had been taken to. An officer knocked on the door but received no answer, court documents state.

The officer then observed a light on in a bedroom on the side of the residence. He then saw Blanchard performing a sex act on the woman, according to court documents.

Upon closer observation, the officer realized the woman was unconscious and not moving at all. The officer knocked on the window (which was cracked open), drew his weapon and ordered Blanchard to get on the ground, court documents state.

Blanchard told the officer that he was “trying to make sure she was okay” and said someone else had drugged her, according to court documents.

The woman was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center (still unconscious), and Blanchard was taken to the Washington County Detention Center for questioning. He later admitted to having sex with the woman while she was unconscious, court documents state.

An arrest warrant was issued for Blanchard on Oct. 3, and he was booked into the jail on Oct. 8.

His next hearing is scheduled for Oct. 10 at 10:30 a.m., and his bond has been set at $75,000, the jail’s intake report states.
